Throne and Kingdom
Esther 1:
2. That in those days, when the king Ahasuerus sat on the throne of his kingdom, which was at Shushan the palace
Throne is the hub of glory, the point of the radiance of king; there issues forth power and the majesty of authority. A man is a man any day any time but he becomes another entity when he ascends throne. Another paraphernalia of king is sceptre which in reality signifies authority. As soon as the man mounts the stool he becomes supreme. The man, the stool and the sceptre constitute the power and influence of the kingdom, the man being the physical manifestation of them all.
In the present age, all the other components are virtually almost none existent in the world except in places where people are still held in the awe and sway of their traditions. Evidently, the earth is groaning with birth pangs of a civilisation and, because this is new, there’s a need to have a paradigm shift from the old. The midwives of the present civilisation – the scientists, the thinkers, the inventors, the writers…. – are kings with the world as the reach of their kingdom. The wizard that created Facebook, for example, is a king of the world; Ellen Musk is another; Soyinka is – all on kingly thrones that defy ancient borders, transcending race and regions and religions.
Throne is the symbol of authority of a man over a system. Throne is the place of worship of beings of superior intelligence through the medium of a man titled king. He’s a representation of the these superior intelligences, the very brightness of it. The king can sits on the throne and, in intimate communication with the other beings, bring order and wisdom strange from realm whose dynamics he himself doesn’t know much about. Modern government is throne by whatever name. From Europe to Africa to America and Asia and every place of human existence, throne is government and government is throne – though the conscious spiritual elements may not be very pronounced as in ancient days of Ahasuerus and peoples of the earth that are still bent on running and ordering their lives by the civilisation they have known, the Ahasuerus way.
The king on the throne represents the spirits, these other beings, to his people; the king also represents the people to the prevailing spirits. The man, the king, is called principality. Actually, in the scripture, the controlling invisible one behind the throne, who’s is worshipped, is the principality.
The spirit that mills about the throne is so intelligent as to be able to rear new form of civilisation, quite superior to others in order to dazzle and conquer and subjugate. The throne manifests the characters of the controlling principality. “Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever; a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness and hated iniquity (the character of this king or his kingdom); therefore, God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows” (Hebrew 1:8-9).
But I know the true God, the Creator of all things, the universe. “And Thou, Lord, in the beginning hath laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thy hand” (verse 10). This is the Lord that created thrones, dominions, principalities, powers…”For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones or dominions, or principalities, or powers…”(Colossians 1:16). The One that all civilisations from ancient to now have always hidden from human our eyes as the One to be worshipped, the One on the Throne, the One who has the kingdom, the power and glory. He is the One that shows us to God, though he himself is God, and shows God to man – the high priest. The Throne of the living God is here on earth though deliberately ignored and always worked into oblivion by each succeeding civilisation of man. It’s not yet visible until the wisdom lustre of this King finally supervenes. “And immediately, I was in the spirit: and behold, a throne was set in heaven, and one sat on the throne…. And out of the throne proceeded lightnings and thunderings and voices… and round about the throne were four beasts full of eyes before and behind” (Revelations 4:4-6).
Jesus Christ of Nazareth was it that came to announce the kingdom of God. It thrills me to no end to know that the throne of God wants to be here on earth, amongst men, shining forth in Divine characters. The One on the throne with the throne as his kingdom will dwell, tabernacle with us. The earth, our earth, is to be the control power room of the whole universe! “And I heard a great voice out of heaven, saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and be their God” (Revelations 21:3). Awesome. God is not, out of threat, about to spring me away and spirit me to heaven for safety but is coming to earth to dwell!. You see, the plan and dream (if it could be so called) of God was that Man should be indwelt by God. But his adversary precipitated a treason and turned God out from what was his rightful kingdom. Restricted by his own divine justice and spiritual law He had set in motion, God would have no right on earth untill the last Adam, the Man, came to restore the kingdom to Him. The last Adam appeared, announcing the arrival of the kingdom of God.
We mentioned earlier that Jesus Christ of Nazareth came to announce the kingdom; the Resurrected Christ inaugurated the kingdom – and, since then men have been pressing hard into it until the final number turns in and the parousia, the kingdom visibly unveils. In the meanwhile, kingdoms rise and fall; governments change forms and nations and races intermingle and order their civilisations to run the world. “And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever” (Daniel 12:44). This is in the presence of the throne, the kingdom of God.
