The Law of Divine Nature

Esther 2
1. After these things, when the wrath of king Ahasuerus was appeased, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her
2. Then said the king’s servants that ministered unto him, Let there be fair young virgins sought for the king
3. And let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of the kingdom, that they may gather together all the fair young virgins unto Shushan the palace to the house of women, unto the custody of Hege the king’s chamberlain, keeper of the women, and let their things for purification be given them:
4. And let the maiden which pleaseth the king be queen instead of Vashti. And the thing pleased the king and he did so.

Right of the bat, the purpose of God in creation of man has been for a being with whom he could express his divine nature. Man was meant to act out God. Man was on probation, on the path to being readied to be indwelt by God; he was on the way of being the satisfaction of God, the reflection of his Creator just, as a type, woman is supposed to be the satisfaction, the glory of her husband. “….. forasmuch as he (man) is the image and glory of God, but the woman is the glory of the man”(1Corinthians11:7). This truth should not elude me, Lord. I’m the reflection, the image and the glory of God! I’m Yours and You’re mine; intertwined!

But man crashed the lofty goal of God for him and declared God a persona non grata. He told God that he was capable of running his own life, generating his own light and controlling his own things. “Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass yourselves about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire and the sparks that ye have kindled…..” (Isaiah 50:11). Two options faced God at the fall of man: destroy him outrightly and start all over; or, work out redemption for him. The first was against divine nature. The second which resonated with divine nature was the only option: redemption of man.

What is redemption? It’s restoration of an imbalance, or a move for counterbalance. Man must be restored, redeemed to his former place. What necessitated redemption? The Law of Divine Nature. How? By what man did which was an act of treason, colluding with another to upturn God’s nascent kingdom, man was guilty of complete annihilation. The law of God’s nature demanded that as solution.

Redemption process to satisfy the demand of the Persia and Media kingdom was impossible for Ahasuerus; he couldn’t reverse the law already set in motion just as God was incapable of reversing the consequence of Adam’s disobedience.
Now, the king was depressed and keenly frustrated at his powerlessness to redeem, restore Vashti to her place of majesty. It was in this burning sense of great loss which the king was in that made his servants suggest a search for another queen. Of course, it’s evident that no two women can be exactly the same; no other woman could turn out to be as unique and peculiar to the king as Vashti was. Certainly, this self-consciousness of her peculiarity baited her to rebellion and, therefore, perdition. She lost all her estate to the bargain and dropped out of a story in the making.

It’s always difficult to the specially endowed to acknowledge God’s grace; it’s easy to forget the roles of God and others in developing grace. Such individual always stands in place of the danger of hubris. Is it beauty? Around the corner is a more beautiful person. Is it intelligence? Oh, many more are out there that can easily replace. Is it grace? Many are more gracious and charismatic and mercuric. On the day there’s a need to look more careful, there shall be a discovery of greater possibilities hitherto unknown. Vashti’s rejection made the kingdom scrounge all the land and brought out the beauties.

Lord, it’s been a long time with You.
You see, Lord, I’ve gone beyond fearing falling out of Your grace Vashti-like. The gift of God, the gift of Christ is without repentance. I’ve come to rely most heavily on Your rod and staff as my confident comfort, assured You will not hesitate to bring these instruments of correction and judgement to bear when necessary. And, Lord, You are not threatened that I might turn Vashti like.
Thank You Father because I know that I know, that I know, that I know that I know that I know You’ll not bring me this far and allow me to be taken advantage of by the evil one. I’ll not be banished from Your presence nor will I ever be replaced.
