Genesis 2:

1 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;

22 And the rib which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man

23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man

Divine moves in the creation of the earth and man were clear and manifest: Man, created in the image and likeness of God; the earth, man’s place to reflect his Creator. As part of divinity in relationship, God brought the institute of marriage into the life of mankind.

A mystery is a deep thing, a darkness that cannot be explained but which is in clear light to the Creator. “In the beginning,” begins the first statement in the Bible, “God created the heaven and the earth.” This is from etrrnity, from Life, the crossing from etrrnity to time. Then comes another introduction of beginning in the Book of John: “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God, and the Word was God (John 1:1). For and by the Word, Who later took on humanity and called the Christ, were all things created,…..,”whether they be thrones , or doninions or principalities, or powers…” (Colossians 1:15).

This move, this bringing in of another species of mankind besides Adam was to reflect the eternal relationship in God; this new thing showcased the harmony, the perfect symmetry, the beauty, the perfection of the godhead and its dynamics.

Adam, beholding the marvel of the Woman formed for and brought to him by God ululated in exclamation, “This is now the bone of my bones… ” Eve or this Woman was to be one or in union with Adam in God. This should be the beginning. The final attainment would be union of Eve, the woman, in Adam with God. This is the adumbration of the relationship between the godhead and the believers in Christ. In the first phase enumerated above, union of Eve with Adam in God takes husbanding, if you like, training. The word husband has to do with husbandry, which is a form of tending, caring and growing or raising to maturity. The end product should be union in Adam with God, that is, after Eve has come to be the perfect reflection of God just as Adam himself is. The believers are in the Lord, in union with Him. The Lord in the Holy Spirit is child-training the church, the believers – corporate and individual – until the latter becomes a perfect reflection of God just as the Lord Jesus Himself is. Paul hinted, “Then the end will come when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father after he has destroyed all dominion, authority and power…. When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all” (1 Corinthians 15:24 &28).

Adam was the one who received the rules of life in the Garden from God. He’s to husband, tend, care, for Eve and help in maturing her. And this is what the Lord does right away. He tending, caring and bringing to perfection until there’s no blemish or rinkles.

The Woman was to be a student of the Head; she wasn’t expected to usurp the authority in the relationship. “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the very nature of God did not count equality with God something to be grasped” (Philippians 2:5-6). Certainly somebody did the opposite of this; Satan decided to become God.

Eve decided to jettison the order in the Garden, siezed authority over Adam and reversed divine order. Chaos was always the result, but this is a meditation for another day

Lord, we give You praise for your wisdom in tending and caring for Your Church. You are developing, perfecting and bringing into conclusion the work You started from the beginning. You’re the only One Who can achieve this; You save to the uttermost.

Thank You, Lord
