Genesis 4:

And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not; Am I my brother’s keeper?

10 And he said, What has thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground

The permeating influence of sin with its accompanying unrighteousness has started its destructive course just a few steps and age out of Eden. The first earth shaking course of physical death! Adam who was to experience death was still physically alive, but Abel was the first to physically die on earth.

Where did the thought of murder come from? And how did it get hold of Cain? The treasonable felony of man executed against God was already yielding bountiful harvest. The first thing that followed this act of man was for him to be displaced by spirit. The man’s thinking was that he would take his life into his own hand and pursue his own course of life. But, oh no, he was wrong. Spirit that is not of God took him over, teaching him how to rebel against God. This is called spirit of disobedience. Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the power of the air… (Ephesians 2:2). Man thinks he is and will be in charge but he has a formidable task master to contend with. He is very pliable in the hand of the devil, the ancient serpent. Evil imaginations took man over and have been configured into his DNA. And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually (Genesis 6:5). Man will like to do otherwise but he cannot help it; he’s caught legally in the power of sin.

God confronts Cain about the evil of slaying his brother Abel. Cain audaciously replies God by firing a question at Him: Am I my brother’s keeper? “What,” the Lord God continues, “have you done to your brother, the voice of his blood is crying out to me from the ground.” At this period in creation, God has but barely existed in the consciousness of man. His consciousness, apart from being completely distorted, cannot stand the presence of God. Man is fast chutting down the dark tunnel. His thoughts generated in his heart are evil in design and purpose.

The blood of righteous Abel cries to God from the ground. Abel is righteous by accepting his helplessness in the face of a life loaded against God. His righteousness which is imputed consists of coming to and drawing closer to God through the acknowledgement of his helplessness and the power of God to save any one that will call upon the name of God.

But Abel gets into trouble for this as everyone on earth will always get into trouble by approaching and worshipping God in the right way laid down by God – which is the way of faith that fetches righteousness. Abel is a type of Christ. His blood is the first to be shed on earth. A type or shadow is not the substance, though. Today, we don’t look to Abel for salvation but we look unto Him who deliberately, for the salvation of man, has had his blood shed. God speaks and downloads redemption to man through this Man called Jesus Christ. God….(H)ath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things…(Hebrew 1:2). God speaks out everything about Himself, His salvation and the godhead through the Son. The Son is the beginning and end letters – Alpha and Omega – of what the Father does and wants

Abel is a type of Christ. His blood is shed by his brother just as the blood of Christ which was shed from the foundation of the world was s also shed on earth. What is blood in the bible? Blood and life are interchangeable. But the flesh with life thereof, which is the blood thereof,…(Genesis 9:4). The blood is life; the life is the blood. That he might give His life up to ransom, purchase, redeem and save us, Jesus Christ, the God who became man, freely gave his life, I mean blood. This is called the blood of the covenant. Covenant is between two parties, one to protect the other in trouble and the other to protect the one in trouble. But God as one established this covenant. He purchased, bought back man from the market of sure death by Jesus Christ. ….which (the flock of God, the believers) he (the Lord Jesus Christ) purchased with his own blood…Acts 20:28).

Abel is a type of Christ whose blood has a voice that speaks But ye are come…to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel (Hebrew 12:22-24). In the Old Covenant, the High Priest would enter the temple to sprinkle the blood of the victims on the altar, the Mercy Seat, the throne of God and so on. The blood speaks and pleads acceptance before the Lord. This blood sprinkled before the throne of God and the altar is called the blood of sprinkling. It speaks mercy; it pleads forgiveness. By this, the believer is able, with boldness, also able to enter into the presence of God in complete identification with Jesus Christ, the High Priest. Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus (Hebrew 10:19). This blood of sprinkling has voice and does speak salvation, redemption and justification; the blood speaks better things than that of Abel. Whatever the voice of the blood of Abel cries, the blood of sprinkling speaks better things.

There is no place in the scripture where the believer is enjoined to plead the blood of the Lord, nor is there any place where believers are to cover self with the blood of Jesus or to scream it. Most things practised but not in the scriptures are borne out of paganism and natural human imaginations.

Lord, we stand on the blood of everlasting covenant and walk in our high places, for ever free to serve You

We lay our claim of righteousness on the Lamb that was slain from the foundation of the world.

The sprinkling blood that speaks better things judges all that are contrary to the thought of God for us

Thank You Lord for this
