Genesis 6:

(It came to pass)

2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair, and they took them wives of all which they chose

4 There were giants in the earth in those days, and also after that, when the sons of God came into the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old , men of renown

5 And God saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually

Mankind was hardly outside the garden of Eden when the first murder occured: Cain killed Abel. Now, the race to evil life started. The imagination of the thoughts of the heart of man was evil always. This expression, comments Donald Stamps, in The Full Life Study Bible, that the word imagination in Hebrew also consists purpose and desire. In other words, the new mankind was bonded to evil purpose and desire; they were only capable of evil in their purple and desire.

How did mankind come to this sorry state of evil impasse? Some beings called the sons of God who were males invaded the space of mankind and chose for themselves the fair daughters of men. Who were these invaders and from where did they come? What was the purpose at the back of their minds? Before answering these questions, it’s good to know arguments that have been offered by scholars. One argument states that the invaders were the descendants of the ungodly lineage of Seth. The beautiful daughters of men were of the ungodly lineage of Cain.The counter argument to this comes in form of a question:, In the course of the next Divine reaction to this abnormality, when God decided to wipe man off the earth, why were the godly line of Seth not spared?

Another argument: the invaders were angels. The counter argument to this: angels don’t marry because Jesus Christ said that in the resurrection, those accounted to resurrect are Ike angels who don’t marry. A good argument but the Lord didn’t say that angels were sexless.

However, let’s compare scripture with scripture.  In Job 38: 5-7, God was asking rhetorical questions about the creation of the earth from Job. Verse seven records God saying of the excellence of beauty of the earth placed in space, When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy? This is Hebraic poem constructed in parallelism. Here the morning stars parallels the sons of God while sang together also parallels shouted for joy. Thus it’s easy to see here that the sons of God in this passage are the morning stars. Certainly, they’re not human beings; they predated human beings. It’s true that the Lord said that angels don’t marry. He certainly was referring to the holy or elect angels for there were angels who kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation (Jude 6). Some angels certainly crossed from their territory, their own estate, to the earth, to the fair daughters of men. When I read translated Greek classics and transported to the world of gods cohabiting with mankind and siring superhumans, I know these distorted stories outside the human lair have elements of truth and, in me, resonate with the bible record. Even after the flood, these beings still existed. Their footprints are scattered all over Africa as gods and goddesses and rulers.

Their presence today are more subtle but powerful in forms of gradual initiation of man to their advanced civilisation in science and technology. Man has outdone himself already but the problem of sin and evil remains. Human wickedness is for ever finding expression in all his inventions. We talk of men of renown. 

The ease with which the invaders into human space chose the daughters of men was amazing. They made their picks and enjoyed themselves. Their purposes? One, to prevent the first prophecy from the mouth of the Lord from being fulfilled. God had promised Satan, the serpent, that He would put enmity between him and the seed of the woman who would bruise the head of the serpent. This was the Lord Jesus Christ. So, one of the purposes of interbreeding with man was to pollute all DNA so that the emergence of the true seed would be impossible.

And, simultaneously too, the plan was to raise sons. We here speak of the sons of the devil. Son is a reflection of the father. Jesus said, If you had known me, ye should have known my father also (John 14:7). Coeternal with the Father, Christ is called the Son of God because he is and ever had been the expression of what God is (Hebrew 1:3)(Vine Expository Dictionary). Again, this is the reason for the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ was to raise sons for the Father.

Now God wants sons, his likeness and his image; the Lord Jesus Christ is the template of this sonship. This plan cost God His own life. The world will pass away, but a jot of God’s word cannot go unfulfilled. Has He spoken, He will do it; has said, He’ll make it good. His prophecies cannot fail.

We thank You Lord for the spirit of sonship which You have put in us whereby we cry Abba Father.
