Genesis 7
1 And the Lord said unto Noah, Come thou…. for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation
The above command came from the Lord after He has ordered Noah to build a ark to save his family from the flood that was about to sweep away the human race. Before God, in God’s eyes, Noah was the only one that was righteous in the generations. It seems so clear that it’s only Noah who hadn’t inherited the new DNA resulting from the crossbreeding of angels and humans which was meant to pollute the lineage of Adam from which a warrior would appear in future who would defeat Satan.
However, the final authority on this subject is the New Testament. The safety and salvation of Noah and his family actually came from his exercising of faith in uprightness of God, reposing absolute trust in God’s commandment and divine prompting. By faith Noah, when warned about things not seen, in holy fear, built an ark to save his family. By faith, he condemned the world and became heir of righteousness that came by faith (Hebrews 11:7).
The factor of faith is it that helps to save Noah and his family. Without faith, it’s impossible to please God for he that comes to God must believe that he is and that He is a rewarder of them that deligently seek him. What is faith? It’s standing, acting and trusting on unseen or yet physically unexperienced Truth. How is this done? By believing. And what’s that? Believe is other side of the coin of faith. However, it’s possible to believe and not click it with faith. For example, there’s this story of a boy who, after his community prayed against a ravaging drought and for rainfall, was the only one that brought an umbrella with him to the believers’ meeting. The boy simply believed in the prayer, trusted that the prayer was answered and acted, as a means of confirming what he believed, bringing his umbrella with him. He didn’t do this in case rain fell; he did it as a preparation for when rain fell. This is faith. Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see (Hebrews 11:1). Note, we don’t see this hope immediately now, but we are certain of it. It’s said that the faith of Abraham surpasses the faith of those who landed on the moon or walked in space. Abraham had no idea of where he was going but the astronauts had, by mathematics and experiments, knew where they were heading.
Faith in God can come on man through nature for nature preaches or witnesses God’s existence. It’s only a fool who, looking up and seeing the sky and its vastness, will not wonder at the awesomeness of it all – and its Creator. By faith, we understand that the the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is see was not made out of what was visible (Hebrews 11:3). This is how it should be: displaying of the greatness of God in nature, teaching and bringing understanding to us. This is to result in faith in Him. But the prophet of the tree of knowledge of good and evil always points us to our self-sufficiency in all things. Man is so self-centered that as he attains one knowledge or the other about matter, existence and life, he hugs his theories of the great bang and evolution; he probes into the past through fossils and tries to prove that God doesn’t exist – all because he depends on his senses, especially that of sight. But then Jesus said, Blessed is the one who doesn’t see but believe. Faith is of the spirit and it’s about seeing the invisible – with the eyes of spirit which is called faith
When faith and believing align in the believer, it results into righteousness. What is righteousness? It speaks of perfection, a conscience completely free from guilt before the Lord. For example, when, as a man, I acknowledge the fact that I cannot stand in the presence of God without dying, melting – my nature cannot tolerate the divine presence – and I owe up to this, inviting God to help, I’m, before the Lord, regarded as righteous; my conscience will now, by this knowledge, free me of all guilt which is mine. In the days of old, my fathers, caught in this, created small gods to help them approach God Almighty. The Lord Jesus Christ came because of this. We don’t now need some gods to help us to approach God the Father: Christ has paved the way to connect us to the Father without wiltering. God made him (Jesus Christ) who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21).
All these, believing and faith, came into play in Noah’s saving the human race and was, by the Holy Spirit, testified as being heir of righteousness. It’s said of Abraham that he believed and trusted God to do what He promised, this act was reckoned to him as righteousness. What does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness” (Romans 4:3).
Father, we thank You for the Lord Jesus Christ who took on Himself our judgement-deserved self, and having taken the judgement on Himself, turned us into the righteousness of God.
Thank You Lord for this
