Genesis 12:
3 And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse them that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed
This is another well coded prophetic message. It’s a message of assurance to Abram from the Lord God. It’s the leitmotif that runs through the entire scripture. Here, as elsewhere, it’s so couched in parable that Abram doesn’t know the depth of it, nor his descendants.
The message, the coded message is Christ: … and in thee shall all the families of the earth be blessed. Interpretations make sense when it’s given a double consideration. There’s one that is of immediate concern. Here it’s Abram and his descendants. The geographical land of Canaan too is in the picture. The final interpretation is that of Christ and God’s kingdom, respectively. The Scripture foresaw that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, and announced the gospel in advance to Abraham, “All nations will be blessed through you” (Galatians 3:8). Here, in the epistle interpretation, it’s evident that the message is far beyond Abram and his descendants; the nations of the world are in the picture. The gospel would have travelled another route if the descendants of Abram understood well enough the mind of God concerning this prophecy, but they didn’t. Israel believed that God was for them alone; He was there to punish, kill their enemies and to fight for them. They made themselves forceful custodians of God. Even centuries after, several generation, this mindset re-echoed in the prophecy of the father of John the Baptist, the oath he swore to our father Abraham; to rescue us from the hand of our enemies and to enable us to serve in without fear in holiness and righteousness before him all our days (Luke 1:73-75).
Today believers in Christ have also imprisoned the Lord Jesus Christ, recruiting Him to their sides to do battle against their enemies, even asking for the deaths of these enemies in the name of Christ. It’s increasingly difficult to wrestle out the scripture from being completely mutilated. Then again, the believers take it that they’re here on earth to display their ample possession of the limited resources for which humanity fight and kill one another. This view of life of possessing things cropped up through human evolvement of different levels of civilisation. In the modern day, every believer is taught that he who’s good at giving his material substances to God will receive more from Him. Believers are assured of healings, prosperity and guaranteed blessings.
It’s the right of the believer to be healed and prosperous. Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well (3 John 2). Even then, this is beyond carnal appeals, demands and considerations. For the moment, the believers are hooked and hung on this mind as they vegitate on the desire to pursue and acquire all this life has to offer.
It’s good to know, first, that creation had a purpose. For by him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible; whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities: all things were created in him and for him (Colossians 1:16). All things created in him and for him are the reason for redemption. Redemption is bringing back to the original plan of God. What would have been if man had not missed it in the garden! He wouldn’t need interventions of several levels of his civilisation where material wealth and human inventions (to beat time and accomplish enormous task within a short time) are all held for us as goals to pursue. Many believers serve God for these. If man didn’t mess it all up in the garden, these present preoccupations of his life wouldn’t have been his goals. Today, he’s confronted with teaching and preaching from the pulpits on the glory of the earthlings.
There’s a need for the believers to wake up and grasp the reason for his life, his raison’detre. Christ is the reason for being.
Centuries after the oath to Abram in Genesis 12,, a prophet of God, righteous Simeon, was close to rightly interpreting the counsel of God as he came to the Temple to meet the infant Jesus and began to speak, For my eyes have seen your salvation which you have prepared in the sight of all people, a light for revelation to the Gentiles… (Luke 2:30). He knew enough to grasp that salvation or redemption or justification is for all peoples of the earth, not only for the people of Israel alone. This is a concept very hard for Jews to grasp as well as believers in Christ. Christ is for both Jews and Gentiles, to all members of the human race
Thank You Father for mercy, your mercy. You gave us the ability to come to your counsel. Thank You for revealing your mind to us in all things. We have the Spirit of Christ, so we’re able to know the mind of God.
Thank You Lord for this
